Dress & Grooming Code

The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards.  Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following: 

Hats are not to be visible during the school day.  Hats used for athletic purposes or for safety in shop classes must be kept in the student’s locker or backpack.   The term “hats” is broadly interpreted and includes:  caps, visors, bandanas, scarves, beanies, and similar apparel.  No sunglasses will be worn during the school day. 

Jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. with hoods will be allowed.  However, hoods must remain off the head during the school day.

Any student wearing or carrying overt gang paraphernalia or making gestures that symbolize gang membership shall be referred to the principal or designee.  The student's parent/guardian shall be contacted and the student sent home.

Skirts/shorts/skorts/dresses must be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee even if leggings are worn underneath.  Skirts/shorts/skorts having slits will be measured from the top of the slit.  Cut off shorts and biker shorts, rolled up and /or tight shorts are not allowed. 

 

At no time will the hair be permitted to hang below the shirt collar.  No pony tails allowed.

Proper undergarments are to be worn by all girls.

 

Sideburns shall be no more than 1/2 inch below the ear lobes and shall not be flared.  Mustaches and sideburns will be kept neat and well groomed.

Shirts that extend below the fingertips (when the arms are hanging by the side naturally,) must be tucked in at all times. 

 

Must be cleanly shaven (no beards or goatees will be allowed).

Clothing that is extremely tight fitting is not acceptable.  (Pants or slacks made of spandex or other form-fitting materials are unacceptable attire.)  Leggings will not be allowed unless worn underneath shorts, skirts or dresses.

 

Certain activities will be permitted to impose more restricted hair lengths if the sponsor so desires.

Shirts that have buttons will be buttoned with the exception of the neck button.

No tank tops, halter tops, exposed see through tops, low cut/revealing blouses, boxers or pajamas are to be worn. Backs or midriffs must not be exposed when reaching or bending.

 

No muscle/sleeveless shirts are to be worn.   Shirts that extend below the fingertips (when the arms are hanging by the side naturally,) must be tucked in at all times. 

TWO earrings in earlobes only.   No spacers allowed.  

No other body piercings or jewelry

(i.e. tongue, eyebrow, nose, lip, etc.) is permitted.

No sagging pants.  No oversized clothing.  Pants must be within one waist size, worn at waist level AND have a belt.  Belts can’t hang down.  HEMS ON ALL PANTS MUST BE SEWN!

Unconventional hair styles, unconventional colored, multi-colored, spiked hair, or hair designs, which the administration considers a distraction to the school environment, will not be allowed. (Slashed or shaven eyebrows are not permitted).

Steel or hard plastic toe shoes/boots, clogs, house shoes, slippers, skele-tones/five fingers will not be allowed.

The wearing of clothing apparel or emblems that graphically depicts obscene or immoral values, including advertisements for alcohol or tobacco products, satanic or demonic activity, condone or promote violence and any other clothing considered distasteful in design and appearance (skulls, snakes, handguns, tobacco products, etc.) is prohibited.

Tattoos/visible markings/writing/drawings on the body MUST be covered at ALL times.

Overcoats/topcoats/trench coats are not allowed.

No grills and scarves allowed.

Stockings on the arms and head are strictly prohibited.

Inappropriate gang-related apparel is prohibited.  Inappropriate gang-related apparel shall include but not limited to baggy pants, insignia clothing, colors identified by local law enforcement agencies, bandanas, baseball caps worn in a particular manner, pant legs rolled up, and/or shoelaces of specific colors.

Clothing with holes, tears and ragged edges may not show skin. 

The wearing of leather spiked or studded bands, belts, gloves, wallets with chains, heavy chains, and such clothing is prohibited.

 

If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school.  If not corrected, the student will be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day, until the problem is corrected, or until the parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school.  Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
